Panda Raksasa Tertua Melahirkan Anak Kembar di Hong Kong

SEAToday.com, Jakarta - Ying Ying, seekor panda raksasa berusia 19 tahun, melahirkan anak kembar di Hong Kong, menjadikannya ibu panda pertama kali tertua yang tercatat. Kelahiran ini terjadi pada dini hari Kamis, sehari sebelum ulang tahunnya yang ke-19, dan merupakan panda raksasa pertama yang lahir di kota tersebut.
Dilansir dari CNN World, anak-anak kembar tersebut terdiri dari seekor betina dengan berat 122 gram dan seekor jantan dengan berat 112 gram. Kelahiran ini mengikuti bertahun-tahun usaha gagal Ying Ying untuk kawin dengan pasangannya, Le Le, sejak mereka dihadiahkan oleh pemerintah China pada tahun 2007.
Paulo Pong, ketua Ocean Park Corporation, menyatakan bahwa kelahiran ini adalah sebuah keajaiban mengingat usia Ying Ying yang telah mencapai batas tertua untuk melahirkan untuk pertama kalinya.
Saat ini, kedua anak kembar tersebut mendapatkan perawatan intensif 24 jam, dan pengunjung harus menunggu beberapa bulan untuk melihat penampilan resmi mereka.
Taman hiburan tersebut mengungkapkan bahwa bayi-bayi tersebut masih sangat rapuh, terutama betina yang mengalami suhu tubuh lebih rendah dan tangisan yang lebih lemah setelah lahir.
Ying Ying sebelumnya mengalami beberapa keguguran, dan kehamilan lima bulan terakhirnya penuh tantangan. Panda raksasa dikenal memiliki periode subur yang sangat singkat dan sering kali sulit berkembang biak di penangkaran.
Meskipun demikian, populasi panda di alam liar telah meningkat, dengan sekitar 1.800 panda tersisa di habitat alami mereka di Sichuan, barat China.
