Dubai Terendam Banjir Usai Diterjang Badai Hebat

SEAToday.com, Dubai-Badai petir dahsyat melanda Dubai, Uni Emirat Arab pada Selasa, 16 April 2024 yang menyebabkan hujan terhebat yang pernah tercatat di negara tersebut. Dalam rentang waktu beberapa jam, air membanjiri sebagian jalan raya utama dan bandara internasional Dubai.
Dilansir AP, kantor berita WAM yang dikelola pemerintah menyebut hujan tersebut sebagai "peristiwa cuaca bersejarah" yang melampaui "apa pun yang terdokumentasi sejak dimulainya pengumpulan data pada 1949." Kondisi ini digambarkan sebagai curah hujan terlebat dalam 75 tahun terakhir.
Hujan mulai turun pada Senin, 15 April 2024 malam, membasahi pasir dan jalan raya Dubai dengan curah hujan sekitar 20 milimeter, menurut data meteorologi yang dikumpulkan di Bandara Internasional Dubai. Badai meningkat sekitar pukul 09.00 pagi pada hari Selasa setempat dan berlanjut sepanjang hari, menyebabkan hujan deras dan hujan es di kota itu.
Pada Selasa, curah hujan lebih dari 142 milimeter telah menggenangi Dubai selama 24 jam. Rata-rata curah hujan mencapai 94,7 milimeter dalam setahun di Bandara Internasional Dubai, bandara tersibuk di dunia untuk perjalanan internasional dan pusat maskapai penerbangan jarak jauh Emirates.
Di bandara, genangan air mengalir di jalur taxi saat pesawat mendarat. Bandara tersebut akhirnya menghentikan operasi di kedatangan pada Selasa malam dan para penumpang kesulitan mencapai terminal melalui air banjir yang menutupi jalan-jalan di sekitarnya.
Bandara Internasional Dubai mengakui pada Rabu pagi bahwa banjir telah menyebabkan "pilihan transportasi terbatas" dan memengaruhi penerbangan karena awak pesawat tidak dapat mencapai lapangan terbang.
"Pemulihan akan memakan waktu," kata pihak bandara melalui platform sosial X. "Kami berterima kasih atas kesabaran dan pengertian Anda saat kami mengatasi tantangan ini."
