Tan Tan Panda Tertua di Jepang Mati di Usia 28 Tahun

SEAToday.com, Jakarta-Panda tertua di Jepang, Tan Tan, mati pada Senin, 1 April 2024 karena penyakit jantung yang disebabkan oleh usia tua. Hewan besar itu mati di usia 28 tahun, yang berarti sekitar 100 tahun manusia.
Dilansir Japan Times, panda raksasa yang namanya diucapkan "dan dan" dalam bahasa Mandarin ini dikirim ke Jepang pada 2000. Tan Tan lahir di China pada 1995.
Panda ini lantas tinggal di Kebun Binatang Kobe Oji selama 24 tahun sebagai simbol pemulihan dari Gempa Bumi Besar Hanshin yang melanda wilayah tersebut pada Januari 1995.
Direktur kebun binatang, Yujiro Kako, mengatakan bahwa panda raksasa tersebut telah memberikan semangat keberanian kepada penduduk setempat dan anak-anak selama hampir 24 tahun, terutama setelah gempa bumi.
"Kami dengan tulus ingin mengucapkan terima kasih kepada semua orang yang telah menunjukkan ketertarikan dan kecintaannya pada panda raksasa Tan Tan selama ini," kata Kako.
Setelah masa kontraknya di Jepang habis, Tan Tan seharusnya dikirim kembali ke Tiongkok pada 2020, namun pemulangannya tertunda karena pandemi COVID-19. Setelah pandemi, kepulangannya kembali ditunda lagi untuk menjalani perawatan medis setelah didiagnosis menderita penyakit jantung terkait usia.
Dengan kematian Tan Tan dan kembalinya Xiang Xiang ke China, Jepang kini memiliki delapan panda, yakni empat di Kebun Binatang Ueno di Tokyo, dan empat lainnya di Dunia Petualangan Prefektur Wakayama.
