Indonesia, UEA Bangun Pusat Penelitian Mangrove Internasional di Bali
SEAToday.com, Denpasar - Pemerintah Indonesia bersama Pemerintah Uni Emirat Arab (UEA) pada Minggu (19/5) melakukan peletakan batu pertama pendirian Pusat Penelitian Mangrove Internasional di Bali, yang dinamakan International Mangrove Research Center (IMRC) Mohamed bin Zayed-Joko Widodo.
Peletakan batu pertama tersebut diikuti oleh Menteri Koordinator Bidang Kemaritiman dan Investasi Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan bersama Menteri Perubahan Iklim dan Lingkungan UEA Amna bint Abdullah Al Dahak Al Shamsi. Pusat penelitian ini berlokasi di Kawasan Ekonomi Khusus (KEK) Kura-Kura Bali di Denpasar.
Menteri Luhut menyatakan Indonesia memiliki hutan mangrove seluas 3,44 juta hektar atau sekitar 23 persen hutan mangrove di dunia. Ekosistem mangrove juga memiliki berbagai manfaat, di antaranya melindungi pantai dan keberagaman hayati. Pusat penelitian ini nantinya akan berfungsi untuk penelitian mutakhir, konservasi, dan pendidikan. Ia juga menyebutkan pusat penelitian ini merupakan bagian dari World Mangrove Center – Bali Grand Forest Park yang diinisiasi oleh Kementerian Lingkungan Hidup dan Kehutanan.
