Australia Sahkan Larangan Penggunaan Sosial Media bagi Anak Dibawah Umur 16 Tahun
SEAToday.com,Melbourne - Parlemen Australia menyetujui undang-undang yang melarang penggunaan media sosial untuk anak di bawah 16 tahun, Jumat (29/11). Senat meloloskan RUU ini dengan suara 34-19 pada Kamis malam sebelum Dewan Perwakilan Rakyat menyetujuinya pada Jumat pagi. Peraturan ini akan menjadi yang pertama di dunia.
UU ini akan membuat platform media sosial bertanggung jawab atas denda hingga 50 juta dolar Australia (500 miliar rupiah) untuk kegagalan sistemik dalam mencegah anak-anak di bawah 16 tahun untuk memiliki akun. Aturan ini tidak merinci platform-platform tersebut, namun Menteri Komunikasi Michelle Rowland mengatakan bahwa larangan ini akan mencakup Snapchat, TikTok, Facebook, Instagram, dan X.
Perdana Menteri Anthony Albanese menyatakan dukungannya terhadap undang-undang tersebut, dengan mengatakan bahwa undang-undang ini mendukung orang tua yang khawatir dengan bahaya yang dihadapi anak-anak mereka secara online. “Platform sekarang memiliki tanggung jawab sosial untuk memastikan keamanan anak-anak kita menjadi prioritas mereka,” kata Albanese.
