Geng di Haiti Tuntut Pengunduran Diri Perdana Menteri

SEAToday.com, Haiti - Para pemimpin geng di Haiti menuntut pengunduran diri Perdana Menteri Ariel Henry yang keberadaannya tidak diketahui sejak melakukan perjalanan ke Kenya.

Melansir BBC News, kemarahan terhadap tingkat kekerasan dan kekosongan politik telah menyebabkan beberapa demonstrasi untuk menuntut pengunduran diri perdana menteri.

Berdasarkan kesepakatan politik, ia dijadwalkan mundur pada tanggal 7 Februari, namun pemilu yang direncanakan tidak diadakan dan Perdana Menteri Henry tetap memegang jabatannya.

“Dia [Ariel Henry] setuju untuk mundur pada tanggal 7 Februari. Sekarang dia memutuskan untuk tetap tinggal, meskipun faktanya ada protes besar-besaran di seluruh negeri yang meminta dia untuk mundur… sekarang para penjahat itu menggunakan cara-cara kekerasan untuk memaksanya mengundurkan diri, “ kata perdana menteri lama, Claude Joseph kepada Newsday BBC

Pemerintah Haiti mengumumkan keadaan darurat setelah geng bersenjata menyerbu penjara di Port-au-Prince dan penjara di dekat Croix des Bouquets. Pembobolan tersebut menyebabkan 12 orang tewas dan sekitar 3.700 narapidana melarikan diri. 

Media Haiti melaporkan, penyerangan juga terjadi di kantor polisi sebelum serangan terkoordinasi ke penjara. 

Serge Dalexis dari Komite Penyelamatan Internasional mengatakan kepada BBC, banyak kantor polisi berada di bawah kendali geng pada hari Jumat waktu setempat dan banyak polisi terbunuh pada akhir pekan. 

Di Haiti, hampir 80% geng menempati Port-au-Prince. Kekerasan geng telah melanda Haiti selama bertahun-tahun dan semakin meningkat sejak pembunuhan Presiden Moïse pada tahun 2021.
