SEAToday.com, Myanmar - Para pemuda di Myanmar menolak adanya wajib militer karena dianggap akan berkontribusi terhadap kekejaman kudeta militer yang terjadi sejak 2021 silam.
Dilansir dari BBC, seorang mahasiswa yang tergabung dalam Federasi Serikat Mahasiswa Seluruh Burma, Aung Sett, mengungkapkan banyak generasi muda yang bergabung sebagai relawan dalam melawan pemerintah hasil kudeta militer tersebut karena rasa kecewa.
“Kami, generasi muda Myanmar, telah kehilangan impian, harapan dan masa muda kami. Ini merupakan mimpi buruk, kami menyaksikan kekejaman rezim junta setiap harinya,” Ucap Aung Sett, dikutip dari wawancaranya bersama BBC.
Beberapa pemuda Myanmar, di akun media sosialnya, mengungkapkan akan menjadi biksu atau menikah dini agar tidak diharuskan mengikuti wajib militer. Hal ini sehubungan dengan adanya pengecualian wajib militer bagi anggota ordo keagamaan, perempuan yang sudah menikah, dan penyandang disabilitas yang telah ditetapkan oleh junta militer Myanmar.
Sebelumnya, pada Oktober 2023, rezim pemerintahan mengalami kemunduran dengan adanya pemberontakan yang menyerbu pos militer di sepanjang perbatasan India dan Tiongkok. Menurut National Unity Government Myanmar, sebanyak 60% dari keseluruhan wilayah Myanmar saat ini telah dikuasai oleh kekuatan perlawanan.
