Mengenali Perayaan Cap Go Meh dalam Tradisi Imlek

SEAToday.com, Jakarta-Tradisi Cap Go Meh menjadi bagian dalam acara Tahun Baru Tiongkok. Cap Go Meh berasal dari dialek Hokkien. “Cap” artinya “sepuluh”, “Go” artinya “lima”, dan “Meh” artinya “malam”. Sehingga, secara istilah arti Cap Go Meh adalah malam kelima belas dari bulan pertama kalender penanggalan Tiongkok.
Dalam bahasa Mandarin, Cap Go Meh dinamakan Yuan Xiao Jie yang artinya festival malam bulan Januari. Cap Go Meh merupakan puncak acara Imlek yang diselenggarakan dengan berbagai tradisi. Perayaan ini dipercaya sebagai upacara tolak bala, di mana masyarakat melakukan berbagai cara untuk mengusir roh-roh jahat.
Perayaan Cap Go Meh biasanya diawali dengan berdoa di Wihara, kemudian dilanjutkan dengan iringan gong dan simbal, pertunjukan barongsai, hingga pertunjukkan tradisional Tionghoa.
Cap Go Meh biasanya digelar dua minggu setelah Imlek atau pada hari ke-15 di bulan pertama kalender Tiongkok. Dengan perhitungan tersebut, Cap Go Meh 2024 jatuh pada Sabtu, 24 Februari 2024. Perayaan Cap Go Meh mulanya digelar sebagai hari penghormatan kepada Dewa Thai Yi. Ia dianggap sebagai Dewa tertinggi di langit oleh Dinasti Han (206 SM - 221 M).
Kala itu, perayaan juga digelar secara tertutup dalam kalangan istana. Masyarakat Tiongkok umumnya belum tahu soal perayaan tersebut. Hingga akhirnya ketika pemerintahan Dinasti Han berakhir, perayaan ini lebih terbuka untuk umum. (DHITA/DKD)
