Lebih dari 200 Orang Meninggal akibat Banjir Bandang di Spanyol Timur

SEAToday.com, Valencia - Banjir bandang yang melanda Spanyol Timur, Selasa (29/10) malam dan Rabu (30/10) dini hari menewaskan sedikitnya 217 orang dan puluhan lainnya masih dinyatakan hilang, sebut Perdana Menteri Pedro Sanchez, Sabtu (2/11). Bencana ini disebut sebagai yang paling mematikan di negara itu dalam beberapa dekade terakhir.

Badai yang berpusat di wilayah Valencia menyebabkan hujan deras yang meluap ke bantaran sungai. Dalam hitungan menit, air berlumpur telah merendam jalan, rumah dan tempat usaha, memaksa warga untuk mengungsi ke tempat yang lebih tinggi dan membuat banyak orang terjebak di dataran rendah.

Layanan cuaca nasional Spanyol mengatakan bahwa di daerah Chiva yang terkena dampak paling parah. Hujan turun lebih banyak dalam delapan jam dibandingkan dengan 20 bulan sebelumnya. Para ilmuwan menyebut perubahan iklim menjadi penyebab cuaca ekstrem tersebut.

PM Sanchez menyatakan bahwa pemerintah mengirimkan 5.000 tentara untuk membantu upaya penyelamatan, menambah 2.500 yang sudah terlibat.

Banyak yang mengkritik pemerintah daerah Valencia atas peringatan banjir yang dianggap terlambat. Pasangan Kerajaan Spanyol yang mengunjungi Paiporta pada Minggu (11/3) juga dilempari lumpur oleh para penyintas yang marah.
