IDF Mulai Banjiri Terowongan Gaza dengan Air Laut Meski Sudah Diperingatkan
SEAToday.com, Gaza - Militer Israel mengkonfirmasi pada Selasa (30/1) bahwa mereka telah membanjiri jaringan terowongan bawah tanah di Gaza dengan air laut sebagai upaya untuk "menetralisir" Hamas. Mereka menyatakan langkah tersebut merupakan "cara signifikan dalam memerangi ancaman infrastruktur teroris bawah tanah Hamas".
Namun, para ahli telah memperingatkan bahwa langkah tersebut berbahaya dan menimbulkan risiko besar bagi warga sipil dan infrastruktur di Gaza. Para ahli lingkungan telah memperingatkan akan terjadinya bencana ekologis yang akan membuat Gaza tidak memiliki air yang dapat diminum. Pejabat PBB juga telah menyebutkan risiko runtuhnya bangunan dan jalan akibat meningkatnya tekanan akibat infiltrasi air laut.
Para pejabat Amerika Serikat sebelumnya juga menyatakan kekhawatiran atas strategi tersebut karena dapat membahayakan nyawa para sandera. Belum jelas apakah ada sandera yang masih berada di dalam terowongan.
