SEAToday.com, Jakarta - President Prabowo Subianto has officially issued Government Regulation (PP) No. 6 of 2025, amending the previous regulation on the Job Loss Insurance (JKP) program. Under this new rule, workers who experience termination of employment (PHK) will receive a cash benefit amounting to 60% of their last salary for six months.

The regulation was signed by Prabowo and took effect upon its enactment on February 7, 2025. In fact, the JKP policy had already been announced by Minister of Manpower Yassierli in December 2024.

The JKP program is managed by BPJS Ketenagakerjaan. According to its official website, JKP provides benefits in the form of cash payments, access to job market information, and training for workers who have lost their jobs.

As stated in Article 21, Paragraph 1, the allowance is given every month at 60% of the last reported salary, with a maximum duration of six months. However, Article 21, Paragraph 2 specifies that the salary used as the basis for payment is the last wage reported by the employer to BPJS Ketenagakerjaan, with an upper limit of IDR 5 million per month.

If a worker’s salary exceeds IDR 5 million, the benefit calculation will still be based on this maximum limit, as stated in Article 21, Paragraph 4.

Additionally, several conditions could cause a worker to lose their JKP benefits. Article 40 explains that the allowance cannot be claimed if the worker fails to submit a claim within six months of termination, has secured a new job, or has passed away.

The new regulation also changes the mandatory JKP contribution rate. Previously set at 0.46% of the monthly salary, it has now been reduced to 0.36%, as stated in Article 11, Paragraph 2.

According to BPJS Ketenagakerjaan President Director Anggoro Eko Cahyo, this revision also brings changes to the disbursement scheme. Previously, workers received 45% of their salary for the first three months and 25% for the next three months. Now, the scheme has been simplified to a flat 60% of their salary per month for six months.

"Now, the benefit is fixed at 60% for six months. Previously, it was 45% for the first three months and only 25% for the next three months," explained Anggoro during a press conference at the Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs in Jakarta on Monday (16/12/2024).

With this new regulation, it is hoped that laid-off workers will receive better economic protection while seeking new job opportunities.
