UNRWA Ready to Send 4,000 Aid Trucks to Gaza Strip
SEAToday.com, New York - The United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) has announced its readiness to send up to 4,000 humanitarian aid trucks, half of which will be allocated to carry food and flour, into the Gaza Strip.
UNRWA Commissioner-General Philippe Lazzarini stated on Sunday (19/1) that attacks on aid convoys in Gaza may decrease as humanitarian assistance begins to flow in following the implementation of the ceasefire.
He reiterated his commitment to continue fulfilling UNRWA's mandate in both Gaza and the West Bank, despite the Israeli authorities' planned ban on the agency, which will take effect on January 30.
UNRWA is the only organization capable of providing vital healthcare and education services to the Palestinian population.
In related developments, the World Health Organization (WHO) representative in the occupied Palestinian territories, Rik Peeperkorn, announced plans to establish several field hospitals in the Gaza Strip. These field hospitals aim to help restore Gaza's healthcare system, which has been severely impacted by Israeli aggression, for at least the next two months.
