BMKG Peringatkan Dua Potensi Gempa di Garut
SEAToday.com, Garut - Badan Meteorologi, Klimatologi, dan Geofisika (BMKG) telah mengeluarkan peringatan terkait dua potensi gempa bumi di Kabupaten Garut, Jawa Barat.
"Ada dua potensi, yang satu dari selatan yang kita namakan subduksi yang dari laut, yang masyarakat mengenal sebagai megathrust. Yang kedua adalah sesar darat yang ada di bawah kita, yaitu Sesar Garsela," jelas Kepala Stasiun Geofisika Kelas 1 Bandung BMKG Teguh Rahayu saat acara Sekolah Lapang Gempa Bumi dan Tsunami di Sekretariat Daerah Pemkab Garut, Rabu (29/5), sebagaimana dilansir dari Antara.
Sejak Januari 2024, tercatat telah terjadi 600 kali gempa bumi di sepanjang patahan di Jawa Barat. Teguh menekankan bahwa gempa bumi darat memiliki potensi dampak yang lebih besar karena terjadi di bawah pemukiman penduduk.
Pada acara tersebut, BMKG mengimbau berbagai elemen masyarakat di Kabupaten Garut untuk meningkatkan kewaspadaan dan kesiapsiagaan dalam menghadapi potensi gempa bumi dan tsunami.
