Pencegahan Virus Mpox di Afrika Terkendala Dana

SEAToday.com, Jakarta - Afrika salah satu benua yang saat ini terpapar wabah cacar monyet atau monkeypox yang sangat berbahaya. Sampai saat ini, Afrika masih terus berupaya untuk mengatasi wabah yang semakin melonjak di setiap harinya.
Dilansir dari Reuters, seorang pejabat senior dari Pusat Pengendalian dan Pencegahan Penyakit Afrika (Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention/AFC) pada Rabu (28/8) menyampaikan bahwa Afrika baru saja menerima dana kurang dari 10% dari sekitar $245 juta yang dibutuhkan untuk mencegah wabah tersebut.
Keterbatasan anggaran yang cukup signifikan ini dapat menghambat pelaksanaan langkah-langkah pengendalian wabah secara efektif. Organisasi Kesehatan Dunia (WHO) mengungkap hal tersebut dianggap sebagai keadaan darurat kesehatan global pada pertengahan Agustus, setelah jenis baru mulai berkembang biak dari Republik Demokratik Kongo ke negara-negara tetangganya.
Di sisi lain, kepala staf CDC Afrika telah menyusun anggaran dalam menentukan jumlah dana yang tersedia untuk menghadapi cacar air serta sumber daya yang dibutuhkan untuk memobilisasi masalah ini.
"Kami telah sampai pada perkiraan pertama sebesar $245 juta," kata Kepala Staf CDC Afrika, Ngashi Ngongo, dalam pertemuan WHO di ibukota Republik Kongo, Brazzaville.
Sementara itu, Pemerintah Republik Demokratik Kongo juga telah berkomitmen untuk memberikan $10 juta sebagai upaya dalam mendukung pencegahan wabah ini. Ada pun, Uni Afrika yang telah menyetujui $10,4 juta untuk disumbangkan.
Namun, hingga saat ini belum diketahui jadwal pasti terkait vaksin yang akan sampai ke Republik Demokratik Kongo, salah satu negara yang paling terdampak oleh virus ini.
