Lebih dari 400 Pegawai USAID Dipecat, Program Bantuan AS dalam Evaluasi

SEAToday.com, Moskow - Badan Pembangunan Internasional Amerika Serikat (USAID) dilaporkan telah memberhentikan lebih dari 400 pegawainya dalam beberapa hari terakhir, menurut laporan The New York Times.

Pemberhentian ini mencakup 36 pegawai dari Office of Transition Initiatives (OTI), unit yang berfokus pada dukungan transisi politik dan inisiatif demokrasi di negara mitra. Selain itu, sekitar 200 pegawai yang terdampak berasal dari biro bantuan kemanusiaan, sementara 200 lainnya bekerja di divisi yang menangani penyaluran bantuan untuk bencana alam dan konflik bersenjata.

Banyak dari pegawai yang diberhentikan telah mengabdi selama lebih dari 25 tahun dan memiliki pengalaman bertugas di zona konflik seperti Suriah, Afghanistan, dan Ukraina.

Pemberhentian massal ini terjadi di tengah pernyataan miliarder Elon Musk, yang kini memimpin Department of Government Effectiveness (DOGE), bahwa USAID adalah "organisasi kejahatan" yang "harus dibubarkan." Musk juga mengklaim bahwa Presiden Donald Trump telah menyetujui penutupan USAID, dengan prosesnya yang sedang berlangsung dan pendanaannya yang telah dibekukan.

Sementara itu, Menteri Luar Negeri AS Marco Rubio, yang ditunjuk Trump sebagai penjabat kepala USAID, menyatakan bahwa pemerintah sedang mengevaluasi kembali program-program USAID agar sesuai dengan kebijakan luar negeri AS saat ini. Rubio menekankan bahwa meskipun pendanaan telah dihentikan sementara, bantuan bisa saja dikembalikan atau bahkan ditingkatkan setelah proses evaluasi selesai.
