SEAToday.com, Gaza - Hamas political bureau chief Ismail Haniyeh has proposed designating August 3 as a global day of support for Gaza and Palestinian prisoners.

According to Palestinian media reports on Monday (7/29), Haniyeh explained that this decision is in response to the ongoing genocide against the people of Gaza, which has been inflicted by the "Nazi-Zionist occupation" for the past ten months. He also cited the unprecedented rise in Palestinian prisoner deaths within Israeli jails as a key factor.

"This call comes in light of the international silence and incapacity to stop this aggressive war against our people and prisoners," Haniyeh said.

Separately, a Hebrew-language newspaper reported that Israeli intelligence estimates the number of Palestinian prisoners at 21,000.
