SEAToday.com, Jakarta - Hundreds of Israeli troops conducted large-scale raids in the West Bank on Wednesday (August/28/2024), focusing on the cities of Jenin and Tulkarm.

The operation, which resulted in at least 10 Palestinian deaths, targeted areas Israeli officials identified as militant strongholds. The raids are part of an ongoing campaign by Israel following the October 7 Hamas attack, which has seen over 600 Palestinians killed in the West Bank.

The conflict has escalated alongside Israel's war with Hamas in Gaza, and cross-border tensions with Lebanon. "People are living in a state of terror and anxiety," said Kamal Abu al-Rub, the Palestinian governor of Jenin, quoted by The New York Times.

Residents of Jenin reported intense gunfire and explosions, leading to widespread fear and anxiety. The United Nations confirmed that one of its vehicles was hit by Israeli gunfire during the operation, prompting the suspension of staff movements in Gaza.

Israeli military officials stated that the raids are still in the early stages, indicating a prolonged presence in the region.
