K-Pop World Festival 2024 Faces Backlash Over Israel's Participation
SEAToday.com, Jakarta - K-pop fans are calling for a boycott of the 2024 K-Pop World Festival following the announcement of Israel's participation by the Korean Embassy in Israel. This decision has sparked controversy online, with hashtags like #NoToArtwashingInKpop and #KpopFestivalOutWithZionism gaining traction.
Fans are urging KBS to sever all ties with Israel, arguing that a nation embroiled in severe humanitarian conflicts should be barred from participation. They believe allowing Israel to join promotes propaganda and ignores the ongoing violence in Gaza.
Some fans are taking action to prevent their favorite groups from being associated with the festival. This includes groups like Riize, Kep1er, and Stray Kids, who have been promoting the event.
The K-Pop World Festival, sponsored by Korean Broadcasting System (KBS), offers winners a trip to Korea to perform at the main event in Changwon.
